Value of Bing and Yahoo!

While they have far less market share than Google,
ignoring Bing and Yahoo completely is a bad decision...

SEO Blog - Value of Bing and Yahoo

Once, that's the number of times I've seen a client or potential client specifically ask to have their website ranked on Bing (then MSN) and Yahoo. Now, while I'd totally agree that one should always be more concerned about Google, I think it's a little foolish to completely disregard the value of Bing and Yahoo.

What surprises me the most though is the amount of businesses out there that totally disregard Bing and Yahoo while being more than happy to run an AdWords campaign. That's not to take anything away from AdWords, it's a great search engine marketing program but the truth of the matter is Bing and Yahoo combined attract more of the search market than AdWords. Google has about 70% of the market but only about 15% click on AdWords listings while Bing and Yahoo control around 20% of the entire market.

Not only does the current landscape justify keeping half an eye on Bing and Yahoo, let's consider the recent coming together of Bing and Facebook. You'd have to be kidding yourself to ignore this as a huge step forward for Bing and if it doesn't assist them in gaining some market share it will be completely at the fault of Bing. Whether you're a Googler, Yahooer or a Binger, most of us have a Facebook account we check in to regularly and for many out there, having shared data from friends to assist their quests for products and services will be a big attraction.

Our Thoughts

In our opinion, if you are more than happy to pay for around 12% of the search traffic out there, you'd be mad to ignore the other 20% out there you can get for free. Sure, if your optimizing a site for Google you should see improvements on Bing and Yahoo, but that doesn't mean they will also be top rankings as these search engines work differently.
